COVID-19 Pandemic animations
This set of animated videos, narrated in Portuguese, covers different aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was a collaboration with the Graduate Program of Science for Development at the Gulbenkian Science Institute (Portugal) and was intended for audiences in Portuguese-speaking African countries.
The first video, “Who Wants to Be Healthy?”, addresses common COVID-19 myths and is formatted like a television game show. Contestants answer quiz questions about the coronavirus and methods of prevention for the chance to win a medal, a mask, and a guided tour of a science laboratory. The second video explains the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and methods of disease prevention, emphasizing the importance of social distancing, mask-wearing, and frequent handwashing. The final video explores what is known about the origin of the pandemic, discussing zoonosis—the transmission of diseases from wildlife to humans—and the various factors that facilitate such cross-species transmission.
